2009 Tree Seedling Cost Sharing Available

Glatfelter Pulp Wood Co., Spring Grove, Pa., will once again share the cost of tree seedlings with interested landowners. Counties included in the program are Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Centre, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union and York.

The Glatfelter firm purchases pulpwood in the state to supply wood fiber to the Glatfelter Co.'s pulp and paper mill in Spring Grove, Pa. Since 1951, this program has helped provide landowners the opportunity to purchase seedlings at substantial savings.

White pine tree seedlings are available under this year's program.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources furnishes all seedlings. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Glatfelter Pulp Wood Co. imposes no restrictions of any kind, but landowners must comply with state regulations regarding the planting of these trees. Pennsylvania regulations include:

Trees may not be used for Christmas trees, decorative or ornamental uses, or for windbreaks.

The minimum acceptable order is for 500 seedlings, which will plant three-quarter acre.

All trees become the property of the landowner, who may harvest them at a future date for any wood product.

The Glatfelter program has an overall dollar limitation. Seedling orders will be accepted and cost shared until that dollar limit is reached. After that, full payment for orders will be the responsibility of the landowner.
