Fire Prevention Month

Hustontown Volunteer Fire Co. held its annual fire prevention training at Forbes Road Elementary School last Monday. HAVFCO members participated in two 45-minute training assemblies to bring awareness of the fire dangers that can be found inside the home. Fire Chief Darius DeShong instructed the students about the many ways a fire could start, from items placed to close to a portable heater, grease fires, misuse of extension cords and the importance of having smoke detectors along with an escape plan with their family. At the end of each assembly, the students walked outside to view the fire apparatus and ask questions about the many pieces of equipment used in firefighting.
