Mercersburg Academy To Present "Arsenic And Old Lace"
Mercersburg Academy's 111-year old theatre troupe, Stony Batter, will present "Arsenic and Old Lace" on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts' Simon Theatre on the school's campus.
In this decidedly dark comedy, Mortimer Brewster, a New York theatre critic who despises theatre, is about to ask his sweetheart Elaine to marry him. No sooner are the two engaged and he inadvertently discovers that Abby and Martha, the sweet, generous spinster aunts who raised him, have developed a chilling habit; poisoning lonely men who come to their house looking for a room to rent.
Mortimer's two brothers only serve to complicate matters; Teddy Brewster believes he is President Teddy Roosevelt, while Jonathan Brewster, an international serial killer, is on the run from the law. Mortimer feels his sanity slipping as he attempts to juggle his insane family, a number of corpses, multiple police officers, and an increasingly agitated fiance.
