Vera E. Hixson
She was born October 16, 1925, in Everett, a daughter of the late Veryl Alvin Dodson and Mary Esther (Bowman) Dodson.
On July 14, 1961, at the Cherry Lane Church of the Brethren, she married Nathan B. Hixson, who survives along with their daughter, Mary Ann Poet, and husband Daryl, Crystal Spring; a granddaughter, Natalie Keebuagh; a grandson, Nathan Keebaugh, both of Crystal Spring; four sisters: Lavata Fischer, Crystal Spring; Marian Calhoun and husband Marvin, Everett; Maxine Hite, Huntingdon; Charlotte Householder and husband Gary, Huntingdon; a brother, Harry W. Dodson, Bedford; and sister-in-law, Cleo Dodson, Everett.
She was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Isabelle and Lee Bellah; a brother, Roy V. Dodson; a sister-in-law, Marie Dodson; and two brothers-in-law, William Fischer and John Hite.
She was a member of Breezewood Lighthouse Assembly of God Church and was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Missionary with the Breezewood Full Gospel Lighthouse.
Earlier in her lifetime, she was a seamstress at Lion Manufacturing in Everett, and then was a cook at Pete's Diner in Breezewood. For the most part, she was a caring homemaker who enjoyed working with her husband at their dairy farm and was a gardener who enjoyed sewing and braiding fabric into rugs.
She also served as a leader for the 4-H of Crystal Spring, and especially enjoyed babysitting the neighborhood children, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m., at Breezewood Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. Rev. Herb Wireback officiated. Burial was made at Akersville Cemetery.
