      Maxwell Bruce Suders celebrated his first birthday on July 12, 2008. Max's birthday cake was a big cupcake baked by his mother. Max's proud parents are Morris and Melissa Suders, and he has a big brother, Carter. He was born on his grandparent'' wedding anniversary, Bruce and Rena Sipes and Morris and Pam Suders.

MHS Musical Gets Council For The Arts Grant
      Noreen Mann has received a grant from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts totalling $1,650. Arts Council board President Bob Fike presented the check at a ceremony in Chambersburg October 2. Mann accepted the check on behalf of the McConnellsburg High School musical "Footloose," which will be presented in April 2009.

      Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr. has received a 2007-08 'Guardian of Small Business' award from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for his voting record on behalf of Pennsylvania's small-business owners.

Preschoolers Enjoy Bus Ride
     Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Helman visited with children in the Hustontown area during the Hustontown Branch Library's story hour. Much to the children's delight, they were given a tour and then a ride on one of Ralph's buses. The library would like to thank Barb Bishop, Central Fulton; Sheila Swope, Southern Fulton; and Mr. and Mrs. Helman, Forbes Road, for bringing a bus to the library for the children to tour. Preschool story hours are Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. at Hustontown Branch Library; Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m., at the library in McConnellsburg and Thursdays at 11:00 a.m., in Southern Fulton at the Needmore Branch Office of The First National Bank of Greencastle. All children are welcome.

Scouts Enjoy Hike
     McConnellsburg Cub Scout Pack 43 was recently led on a hike by Dave Birgensmith through Caledonia State Park. The 5-mile hike included talks on first aid, plant and tree identification, safety gear for hiking and learning how to follow a hiking trail. Members and siblings participating were, back row: Danny Booth, Donny Hoover, Joey Young; front row: Alyshia Babcock, Amanda Hoover, Autuane Babcock, Bradley Singer and Josh Booth.
