Ex-Pa. Lawmaker's Sister Fired From Teaching Job
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (AP) - A former Pennsylvania lawmaker's sister, who pleaded no contest to lying to a grand jury, has been fired from her job as kindergarten teacher.
The Ellwood City school board fired Ann Bartolomeo on Wednesday.
Her brother is former state Rep. Frank LaGrotta, who was sentenced in February to six months' house arrest after admitting he placed Bartolomeo and her daughter in state jobs that reaped them thousands of dollars for little or no work.
The two women were fined and given probation for their pleas.
Bartolomeo surrendered her teaching license in August after a complaint was filed. The school board then suspended her, noting she couldn't teach without it.
The school district, located about 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, hired Bartolomeo in August 1999.
