RELIGION

Fall Services Special fall services will be held at Jerusalem Christian Church October 2-5, at 7:00 p.m., each night with guest speaker Gary Sams and featuring special music each night. Outdoor Sing A special outdoor sing will be held again at the home of Dick and Ruth Knepper's on Sunday afternoon, October 12, at 4:00 p.m. Bring a covered dish and a comfortable lawnchair. After eating, all will be blessed with a message from Stephen Gallaher. All are welcome.

Revival Fall revival services will be held at Walnut Grove Church of God, Maddensville, October 12-15, at 7:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Pastor Duane Williams. All are welcome.

Special Music Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown, has invited the "Musical Merrills" to equip families with biblical and practical skills to succeed in the changing society. The family plays 12 different instruments. Preaching, drama and personal involvement will be utilized to strengthen the home. Worship Service At Tonoloway A special service of worship and music at Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church in southern Fulton County takes place Sunday, October 5, at 2:00 p.m. Order of worship includes a cappella selections by Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute Choir, congregational singing and inspirational message delivered by Pastor Chris Elliott, Knobsville Church of the Brethren. Refreshments will be served in the churchyard immediately following the service. All are welcome to take part. Tonoloway is located on state Route 655 (Thompson Road) two miles north of Hancock, Md.

RECREATION

X Card Shoot X-card shoots will be held Friday nights until November 21, at 7:00 p.m., at Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club. Enter to win a New England Arms 12 gauge pump shotgun when playing X card.

SF Geography Club Trip Southern Fulton Area Geography Club will be travelling to England and Scotland for seven days in early June 2009. The trip is open to students and parents as well as to other community members. All students must be accompanied on the trip by a parent or guardian. Hike Survivor Youth of McConnellsburg/Cito Charge is sponsoring a hike on Saturday, October 4. Meet at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. then travel to the beginning of the hike by carpool. The hike will start at 10:30 a.m. Anyone wanting to meet the youth group at the hike site, please contact Sherri Lynn or Hope Moore at 485-4050. The 2 Mile Hike will take place in the Buchanan State Forest and will be led by Ranger Shawn Lynn of the DCNR office in McConnellsburg. This hike is suitable for all ages including young children.

Harvest Farm Festival The fifth annual Harvest Farm Festival will be held at Stoner's Dairy Farm in Mercersburg, Saturday, October 4. In addition to a 5-acre pirate-themed corn maze, the festival will offer pig racing shows, hay rides, pony rides, alpacas, chain saw sculpting, Phantom Shadow inflatable attractions, a petting zoo, children's magic show, pumpkin patch, scarecrow factory, arena contests, self-guided farm tours, games, delicious food and more. Festival hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, ages 3 and older. Parking is free. Proceeds benefit various local organizations. Raindate is Saturday, October 11. Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage Saturday, October 18, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Come and share talents and enjoy the evening.

Pike-To-Bike Ride An eight-mile bicycle ride along a portion of the old Pennsylvania Turnpike will be held by the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission on Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m. Riders should meet at the large parking area on the Oregon Road in Wells Township to enjoy the county's fall foliage and the ride through the Rays Hill Tunnel. Ice Cream Social, Open House, Parade Needmore Fire Co. will hold its annual fireman's parade on Saturday, October 11, in conjunction with open house for the new facility. Parade lineup will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the parade at 4:00 p.m. and prizes at 6:00 p.m. The parade will begin on Route 655 south, Thompson Road, and will end at the Needmore Firehall where there will be food, games, homemade ice cream and music by "Night Drive." Trophies and/or cash prizes will be awarded at approximately 9:00 p.m. Judges' decisions are final and there is no raindate. More information and/or concerns may be directed to 717-573-2821.

Trap Shoots Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club will hold Friday night practice trap shoots at 7 p.m., every Friday night now until November 21, 2008.

Car Show A car show will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., rain or shine. Open to all automobiles: antiques, hot rods, customs, classics, trucks and motorcycles. Also, monster truck display, music, concession stand, door prizes, and more. The show will be held at Needmore Bible Church, 6939 Great Cove Road, Needmore, to benefit Fulton County Community Christian School. Dale Gordon 5K Run/Walk The Dale Gordon 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, October 18, at 8:00 a.m., at the square in Needmore. First- and second place medals will be awarded in 12 age/gender categories. Cash prizes up to $300 awarded for those who get the most sponsorship. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Vice Presidential Debate Dott Store will again be open to the community for a vice presidential debate watch this Thursday, October 2. The debate begins at 9:00 p.m. Guests are welcome anytime after 8:00 p.m. Free coffee and dessert will be provided by Dott Store. Photo Contest Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission is accepting photo entries through November 14 with the winning photo to be used in a community art room mural located in the basement meeting room of the Lions Club Community Building. Photos must depict a local location, event or even the people of Fulton County. Only adults and children residing in county are eligible to participate. Cash prizes given. Democratic Headquarters Open Democratic Headquarters in Mc- Connellsburg at 123 South Second Street will be open Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Fridays, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and Sundays, noon to 2:00 p.m. throughout the current political campaign season. MES Musical Booster Club McConnellsburg Elementary Musical would like to start a booster club for friends to the musical and parents of the children involved in the elementary musical. Anyone interested in being a part of this start-up booster club can come to a meeting Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., at the high school auditorium during an entire cast rehearsal.

Scrapbooking A crop session for scrapbookers will be held Sunday, November 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the basement meeting room of the Lions Club Community Building. Corn Plot Day A corn plot day is being held October 15, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Russell McLucas's farm field along Narrows Road. Come enjoy a couple hours learning about the corn varieties in the plot. These varieties grew under the same conditions. Those represented in the plot: Dekab, TA Seeds, Doeblers, Kings, Dyna Gro and Hubner. Del Voight form Penn State University and H.Grant Troop Penn State Extension will be on hand to discuss different aspects of growing corn in Pennsylvania. Women's Self Defense Class The Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding an extensive, hands-on women's self defense course for females ages 16 and over. The class, led by Trooper Ryan Cohen of the McConnellsburg substation, will be held each Monday night in October from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Forbes Road High School gymnasium. Fall Folk Festival Vendors There is both indoor and outdoor vendor space available at the Fall Folk Festival Welcome Center at the Lions Club building, 301 East Maple Street, McConnellsburg. Soup/Scones Sale Homemade beef barley soup and scones will be served from the Fulton House log kitchen from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18. The Country Cousins will provide free music at noon Friday. Donations of pies, cookies, sandwiches, sodas, etc may be dropped off Friday morning. Proceeds will benefit the Fulton County Historical Society.

Turkey Dinner A turkey dinner will be served at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg, Friday, October 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Adults are $8; children 4-12, $4; and under 3 free. Take-outs will also be available.

Cito Breakfast Buffet Cito United Methodist Church will be serving a breakfast buffet on Saturday, October 18, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the church fellowship hall located at 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. The buffet style breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, chipped beef gravy, toast, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6-12 and ages 5 and under free.

FFFF Fashion Show A fashion show will be held October 18, at 1:30 p.m. on the Knepper Mill porch in Waterfall. Only requirement: outfit must come from Second Time Around Thrift Shop in Waterfall. Any age or gender can participate. Second Time is open Tuesday and Thursday, from noon until 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 2:00 p.m. It will be fun and all will be reocgnized. There will be no charge for outfit and yours to keep, but must tell the salesperson what you will be doing with it.

Hustontown/Forbes Road High School Banquet The Hustontown High School and Forbes Road High School Alumni banquet will be held at the Hustontown Firehall on Saturday, October 4, 2008. MEETINGS

Historical Society Meeting The fall meeting of the Fulton County Historical Society will be held Thursday evening, October 16, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the McConnellsburg High School. Peggy Ann Bradnick Jackson will tell the story of her 1966 kidnapping near Shade Gap. An openmike period will follow for local search personnel and others to share their memories. Free admission, with an offering to be lifted for expenses. Everyone welcome.

McCain-Palin Volunteers Meeting Anyone who would like to help with the McCain-Palin campaign is invited to attend a meeting at Republican Headquarters which are located beside Main Moon Chinese Restaurant in Mc- Connellsburg. The meeting will be on Tuesday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to volunteer, but are unable to attend the meeting should call 717- 485-3486 and leave a message.

Medical Center Auxiliary Meeting Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will meet Monday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m., in the activity/auxiliary room of the new hospital. New members are welcome. The auxiliary aids the hospital in its mission by volunteering and donating to its projects. Come and learn of its programs and plans and how volunteering by many lessens the work and enhances the rewards for all. After this month's meeting enjoy the Women's Health Fair that is located in the main lobby and sponsored by the auxiliary.

Town Meeting Fulton County Commissioners will hold a town meeting October 2 at Needmore Bible Church Fellowship Hall at 7:00 p.m.

Conservation Meetings Fulton County Conservation District Board of Directors monthly meetings for 2008 will be held: October 9, 7:30 p.m.; November 13, 10:30 a.m. and December 11, 10:30 a.m. The budget and finance, personnel and programs and services committees meet one-half hour prior to the regular board meeting. All district meetings are held in the Conservation District board room located at 216 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, unless otherwise noted.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

Parks & Recreation Commission Meetings Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission has open meetings every third Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., at the old Jaycees building for anyone who is interested or would like to volunteer in any way.

Democratic Meetings Fulton/Franklin Democratic Club meets the third Tuesday of each month in Democratic Headquarters at 7:00 p.m., 123 South Second Street, McConnellsburg. Ham & Oyster Supper A all-you-can-eat ham and oyster supper will be served October 25 at Cove Valley Youth Camp, Mercersburg. Fried and scalloped oysters, ham, baked corn, baked macaroni, green beans, homemade pies and cakes, applesauce and apple crisp will be served. A proportioned takeout meal can also be purchased.

Spaghetti Dinner There will be a spaghetti dinner Saturday, October 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church Faith Center, located at 12941 Buck Valley Road. Cost will be by donation.

Chicken Barbecue Knobsville United Methodist Church is holding a chicken barbecue Saturday, October 18, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Cost is $7.

Benefit Dinner A benefit dinner will be held at Pleasant Grove Christian Church fellowship hall, Needmore, Saturday, October 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Proceeds benefit Herbert Koontz to help with medical expenses. Potpie Supper Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon will hold a chicken, ham and beef potpie supper on Saturday, October 11. It will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the community center located at Hawbaker Drive and Mullen Street. Eatin or order carryouts. Adult meals are $7. Meals for children, ages 7-12, are $5 and and under 7 are free. The menu includes pepper slaw, applesauce, pickles, cake, punch and coffee.

Potpie Supper A homemade ham potpie supper will be held at Six Mile Run Firehall October 9, at 5:00 p.m. All-you-can-eat for $5.50, eat-in or takeout.

BINGO

Bingo Bingo with the MMP&W Volunteer Fire Co. is held the first and third Fridays of each month at the Fire Station, 132 North Main Street, Mercersburg. Cost for basic package is $25. Jackpot cards are extra. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:00 p.m.

Basket Bingo Basket bingo, sponsored by Southern Huntingdon Ridge Runners Relay For Life team will be held Sunday, October 26, at Shade Gap Ladies Auxiliary Building. HEALTH

Diabetes Walk The first annual Multi-County Diabetes Walk will be held October 11, 2008. Registration will be at 11:00 a.m., with the walk starting at noon. The event will be held at McConnellsburg school track. Proceeds raised for the event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Diabetes Association.
