William E. Hoopengardner

Hancock, 92

William Emory Hoopengardner, 92, Hancock, Md., died Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.

Born August 16, 1916, in Buck Valley, he was the son of the late Joseph Luther and Ella Smith Hoopengardner and the husband of Marie Ellen Rector Hoopengardner, who died August 3, 2005, and whom he married January 23, 1937, in Frederick.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps.

He was retired from Rayloc in Hancock.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock; a member of the AARP; and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock.

Surviving are a daughter, Wanda L. Snow, Hancock; two sons: Robert E. Hoopengardner Sr., Hancock; Rocky S. Hoopengardner, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Louise Jordan, Williamson, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 25 greatgreat grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Luther Hoopengardner; two sisters: Margarette Hull and Maxine Everett; four brothers: Guy, James, Ray and Harry Hoopengadrner.

Memorial services were held Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. officiated. Military services were by Tri- State Honor Guard and burial was made in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.

Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements.
