Au Pair Charged With Homicide In Son's Pa. Death
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A Brazilian woman already held on charges of abuse of a corpse and concealing the death of a child in Pennsylvania is now charged with homicide.
Authorities say 24-year-old Ana Cuoco gave birth to the baby on Aug. 7 in the basement of the suburban Harrisburg home where she worked as an au pair. Officials say Cuoco told police the baby wasn't breathing so she wrapped the body in a towel and a plastic bag and hid it.
Authorities now say testing shows the newborn boy died of suffocation. Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico Jr. announced the additional charge of homicide on Wednesday. He says he doesn't know if prosecutors will pursue a first-degree murder charge.
Dauphin County senior deputy public defender Lawrence Bartel, representing Cuoco, says he needs to review the case before commenting.
